Afghanistan entered the race for the semi-finals

Afghanistan entered the race for the semi-finals by defeating Sri Lanka. In the ICC Cricket World Cup, Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to secure their third victory in the event and entered the race for the semi-finals.

In the 30th match of the World Cup played in the Indian city of Pune, Afghanistan team captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and invited Sri Lankan captain Kaushal Mendis to bat first. On which Sri Lanka gave Afghanistan a target of 242 runs to win.

Sri Lanka’s opening batsmen Patham Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne started the innings but the opening pair could not give their team a good start against the Afghanistan bowlers.



In the fifth over, Dimuth Karunaratne returned to the pavilion after scoring 15 runs off Fazal Haq Farooqui, after which Patham Nissanka was dismissed after scoring 46 runs off 60 balls.

Sri Lanka’s third wicket then went to Mujeeburahman as he guided skipper Kaushal Mendis back for 39 runs, after which Mujeeb himself left Sudira Samarawakarma lbw for just 4 runs.

Apart from them, Cherith Asalinka played an innings of 22 runs and Angelo Mathews played an innings of 23 runs.

The Sri Lankan team was bowled out for 241 runs in 49.3 overs.

On behalf of Afghanistan, Mujeebur Rehman dismissed 2 players while Fazl Haq Farooqui took 4 wickets for 34 runs.

The Afghanistan team showed excellent performance in chasing the target of 242 runs and achieved the target of 242 runs in the 46th over with the loss of 3 wickets.

Afghan batsman Rahmat Shah scored 62 and Ibrahim Zadran scored 39 runs, Rahmanullah Garbaz was dismissed for zero.

Azmatullah Umarzai remained unbeaten with 73 runs, his innings included 3 sixes and 6 fours.

Along with him, Hashmatullah Shahidi also remained unbeaten with 58 runs.

Dilshan Madhu Shanaka dismissed 2 players for Sri Lanka.

After England and Pakistan, the Afghanistan team joined the race for the semi-finals by defeating Sri Lanka.

The Afghan team has moved to the fifth position with 6 points, and Afghanistan has overtaken Pakistan on the points table.
